Jaeschke vineyard in Sevenhill subregion of Clare Valley provided the Sangiovese fruit for our textural and fragrant Piccoli Lotti Rose 2019. The alluvial soils recreate the ideal conditions for the vines to thrive and produce outstanding fruit.
Sangiovese was one of the best performing grapes in Clare Valley during the challenging vintage 2019. Despite a very dry winter and cold spring and an extremely hot summer, grapes showed beautiful colours and a great varietal intensity after being protected by the leafy umbrella of the vine canopy. The fruit was picked in the coolest part of the night to minimise any colour and phenolic pickup from the Pinot Grigio skins which naturally have a faint pink tint. Crushed and pressed immediately on arrival at the winery into free run and pressing fractions both batches of juice were fermented separately. On completion of fermentation the wines were held on yeast lees for 4 months to build complexity and texture then blended together.
