Additional Information
Vineyard

The fruit for this wine was sourced from the WSS Vineyard in the Watervale sub-region of the Clare Valley. The vines were planted in the 1970’s and are oriented east to west to maximise daily sunlight. The vineyard is 350 metres above sea level and grown on deep red clay loam over limestone soils, with pockets of slate.

Growing Conditions

2018 saw a long, dry growing season with below average rainfall, with  vintage beginning in the first week of February. Warmer ripening conditions and lower yields produced greater concentration of flavours and a bold structure.

Winemaking

2018 was an exceptional year for Watervale Riesling. The fruit for this wine was hand-picked and gently pressed, using only the finest free-run juice. Fermenting at cool temperatures allowed us to create an elegant, floral Riesling. The wine was fermented to dry and gently fined and filtered before bottling.

Winemaking Notes

The 2018 Settler Riesling presents enticing florals and intense citrus aromatics, like freshly squeezed lemon juice. The palate is elegant and balanced, evoking citrus zest flavours and a crisp minerality. The lingering finish is well-balanced by a line of crunchy natural acidity. This is a wine that can be enjoyed now, but will gain greater complexity as it ages in the cellar.
